About Activities
Q. I have never learnt International Law but will I be alright to join?
A. No problem. We understand that first-year students cannot take international law courses at the university, so we will start by answering to “What is International Law?” In addition, since it is necessary to discuss different rules of international law that are not covered in international law courses when preparing for the competition, let’s start learning together!
Q. What kind of people are suitable for RILS?
A. First and foremost, we are looking for individuals who are interested in international law and other international affairs and are eager to learn. Additionally, moot court competitions require a significant amount of preparation and hard work, so it is essential that each member is never willing to compromise, they can communicate with one another, and divide up responsibilities.
In this regard, individuals who have sense of responsible, are committed to achieving results, and able to engage in discussions are particularly well-suited for our activity. Some may have concerns such as having no prior knowledge of international law (or other laws) or no experience with presentations, but these are areas that improve with time and practice, so there is no need to worry at the time of joining. If you have the desire to participate in the international law moot court competition, seniors are here to fully support you!
Q. I am a first year student and can I participate in competitions?
A. For those who join in April, the Japan Cup competition period (problems are released in April, submission of memorial in June, and the oral round of competition in July) will come quickly. During the spring semester, we will continue providing study sessions on the basics of international law in accordance with the RILS’s original curriculum, but if you express your interest by early June (subject to change), you may also apply for the selection process to become an oralist to represent the team. The four years of university spent participating in international law moot court will pass by faster than you imagine, so we encourage you to take on this challenge at an early stage.

As we already have member(s) from different College (such as Contemporary Psychology), we always welcome non-law students to join the team!

A. Yes, we do also welcome sophomore, junior and senior students. Please note that we can accept only undergraduate students to comply with university rule(s).
Q. I am a student from different university but am I able to join?
A. We apologise, but due to Rikkyo University regulations, we are unable to accept students from other universities. Please search for similar clubs, seminars at your own university. Thank you for your understanding, and we hope we can see you at inter-university competitions.
Q. Can I join mid-season?
A. Yes, you can apply for a membership regardless of season. However, please note that the procedure may not be as smooth as normal before and during competitions (July, January, and February).
In addition, due to preparation and procedural requirements, we recommend that those who wish to participate in competitions or camps apply well in advance.
Furthermore, for those who wish to learn international law from the very first step, we strongly recommend that you join the club around April or May, when the club’s curriculum begins.
